Blackburne in Bloom Winners

It was a difficult summer for gardeners in our area with one big rainstorm and hailstorm after another in July, but in the end, selecting 20 homes as finalists in the annual front yard contest - Blackburne in Bloom wasn't easy.

 

Judges then had the difficult task of grading the finalists and when all the numbers had been tabulated from the six judges the home of Janet and Hartley Ekert at 924 Blackett Wynd (left) was the winner.   Although their home had been nominated before, this was the first time it had cracked the top three.

 

Two other homes that had done well in the past finished as runners-up this year.  The home of Sue and Bob Turko at 726 Blackwood Crescent (right) and the home of Sandra and Brad Friesen at 723 Blackwood Crescent (below left) grabbed the other top three spots. The top three homes were separated by less than a single percentage point in the final totals.

 

The winning home received a cheque for $100 from the Blackburne Creek Homeowners' Association and the runners-up have pocketed cheques of $50 each.

 

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who made their front yards beautiful and helped make Blackburne Creek a great place to live.
