2013 Blackburne in Bloom Results
Congratulations to the three winning yards from our front yard contest in 2013. 12 people volunteered for the challenging task of judging the 21 gorgeous yards nominated in Blackburne Creek.
Janet and Hartley Ekert at 924 Blackett Wynd won first place for the second straight year. After many years of being nominated, they are honoured to be recognized again and appreciate the positive comments from passersby. Garden colors are changed annually with pinks and purples being Janet’s favorite for this year. A photo of their yard is to the right.
Maureen and Ron Goulet at 926 Blackett Wynd (below left) placed second with some of the judges praising their ‘beautiful perennials’! Since they moved into Blackburne Creek a few years ago, their yard has seen a huge makeover with Ron and Maureen painstakingly cutting out lawn to make way for the attractive winding garden of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.
Delilah and Gordon Mellott at 931 Blackett Wynd (below right) placed a close third. Their yard features bright pinks and reds with many interesting statues and matching outdoor décor.
The owners of the winning yard receive a cheque for $100 from the Blackburne Creek Homeowner’s Association and the runners-up receive cheques of $50 each. These three homes will also be nominated for the 2014 Edmonton Yards in Bloom contest.
Congratulations also to Sue and Bob Turko at 726 Blackwood Crescent. They received an Award of Merit for the 2013 Edmonton Yards in Bloom contest. There were over 2,300 yards nominated. Of those, six were finalists and 24 received Awards of Merit. Their yard won second place in the 2012 Front Yard contest.
