2016 Annual General Meeting
The 19th (I believe) Annual General Meeting of the Blackburne Creek Homeowners’ Association was held on Monday November 14th at the Ellerslie Rugby Club. The meeting was well attended with over 40 members in attendance. President Hawrelak, Treasurer Schofield, and Vice-President Tillburn provided reports.
In his report, Mr. Hawrelak addressed a number of issues pertaining to events over the past year, including collections, weed control, watering of our common lands, gazebo maintenance, our biannual spring clean-up, fences along common property (a restrictive covenant issue), maintenance of our benches (we own six) and our sign board, and our new landscaping contractor.
Mr. Schofield presented the 2015-16 annual financial reports, which were adopted, while Ms. Tilburn addressed our front yard contest and a call for volunteers to help with our upcoming 25th anniversary neighborhood party.
Our elected representatives to the City of Edmonton (Bryan Anderson) and the Province of Alberta (Thomas Dang) also attended the AGM. Both held a brief question and answer session on their respective areas of influence. The Board thanks Councillor Anderson and MLA Dang for taking the time to communicate so personably with their Blackburne Creek constituents. Sadly, this will be Mr. Anderson’s last AGM with us as he will be leaving City Council after this term. Our thanks go to him for many years of service in helping us resolve our occasional difficulties with City departments. Mr. Dang, however, will not get off so lightly as he has at least another three years of having to deal with our issues, such as they may be.
Your 2016-17 Board of Directors was elected by acclamation with two new Board members, David Morris and Jay White joining Adam Kitchen, Drew Schofield, Melissa Tilburn, Nathan Maslenko, and Brian Hawrelak, who have volunteered to stay on the Board.
The Board wishes to thank our volunteers — Geunther Mollenbech, Brad Friesen, Cameron Steenveld, Hilda Mollenbech, Maryanne Benning, Guy and Eileen Luke, Don Ausman, and Grant Ainsley — for their service to your Association over the past year. Finally, we hope to see you at our 25th anniversary party next summer and our 2017 AGM next fall.
Brian Hawrelak
President
