Online Payments Coming
Invoices
for annual association membership fees will be coming your way at the
start of June and this year you will be able to pay them online. A
system is being set up on our new website that will allow members to pay
by Visa, MasterCard or debit. You will still have the opportunity to
pay by cheque if you prefer. The Board of Directors of the Blackburne
Creek Homeowner's Association wants to make it as easy as possible for
everyone to pay their fees, which remain at $90 annually for single
family homes and $60 for condos. Look for payment information on your
invoice, or coming soon to our website.
Following changes made in the association bylaws last fall, payments
will only be sought from association members. In the past, voluntary
payments have been requested from residents who aren't members, but this
year the bylaw changes will only allow for payments from members to
ensure there is a defined line between the association's members and
non-members in the area.
Update On Legal Action
Work
continues with the association's legal firm to prepare our case against
three members who installed non-wood roofing material on their homes
last summer. There's no word yet on when the issue will be in front of
the courts, but we'll keep you informed. Members are also reminded that
there has been no change in the restrictive covenant and wood shakes or
singles are still mandatory for encumbered homes in Blackburne Creek.
Stay Safe
Another reminder to do everything you can to secure your property in the
community. Earlier this month, on April 7 and 9, a car and a garage
were broken into in Blackburne Creek. Residents are also urged to
immediately report any suspicious activities to police. This is how
police determine patrol frequencies and coverage. You can also report
crimes from your mobile device by using #377. To get information on
crimes check the City Police website.
Thoughts on Transit
Residents who use Edmonton Transit are likely aware that there's no bus service in Blackburne Creek after  6:00pm
each evening. We want to know if that's a concern of yours. The
association has checked with Edmonton Transit and has been told that the
neighbourhood is just below the cutoff that would lead to improved
service. Drop us an email to let us know if this is an issue and we'll pass along the neighbourhood's concerns.
Your Chance to Clean Up
The
(almost) annual Blackburne Creek Clean-up takes place on Saturday, May
24, beginning at 9:00am at the gazebo in the playground. We're looking
for your help to spend an hour or two that morning to assist in the
clean-up efforts. Just show up at the gazebo at 9:00am dressed for the
weather and with comfortable and safe footwear and we'll put you to
work. If you have any questions, just drop us an email. Thanks to Dan Edwards of the Board of Directors for organizing the cleanup.
We'll Bloom Again
It's a beautiful Easter Monday and before you know  it,
our annual front yard contest - Blackburne in Bloom will be here.
Finalists will be named in late July and final judging will take place
in early August. This year the association's Board of Directors will be
organizing the contest, led by Melissa Tilburn. The Board would like to
thank Janet Ekert for the outstanding job she has done organizing the
contest for the past two years. |
