We have received concerns from some members regarding the feeding of wild animals and birds in our community as this may contribute to increased populations of squirrels, mice, voles, pigeons, etc and the damage they may bring. Below, you will find information from the city of Edmonton website about best practices and municipal standards. We hope this is helpful.
From the city of Edmonton website: (https://www.edmonton.ca/residential_neighbourhoods/pets_wildlife/wildlife-pests)
Intentional feeding of wildlife and excessive accumulation of edible materials on private and public property is prohibited as per the following bylaws:
- Community Standards Bylaw(applies to private property - Sections 6.1 and 6.2)
- Public Spaces Bylaw(applies to public property)
These bylaws address both individuals' behaviour and property conditions that may lead to increased negative interactions between coyotes, people and companion animals or the creation of nuisance conditions that may cause public or health and safety concerns.
