Did you know that Snakes hibernate? They enter a hibernaculum to help them to survive the cold winter months in Alberta! Follow this link for more information about garter snakes: https://royalalbertamuseum.ca/blog/garter-snakes
We appreciate that our harsh winters and the freeze and thaw cycles may also not bode well for our friendly neighbourhood rock snake, Rocky! The snake's head will be moved for the winter and will emerge again in the spring when the weather warms. Thanks to the generosity of one of our neighbours (thanks Jennifer!!), a green tool box has been provided for Rocky's hibernaculum. This will be located by Rocky's sign and you can add your rock to the hibernaculum if you wish or take your rock home for the winter. We know that many young children eagerly show visitors their rocks, so we will leave it up to the owners of the rocks to move them if they wish.
