What a Day!
The sun was shining, the late summer temperatures were hot and a ton of Blackburne Creek residents soaked it all in at the community’s block party held next to the playground on September 10th. In addition to the usual events for kids such as face painting, games and an Astro Jump, there was street hockey, 3 on 3 basketball and even a skateboard demonstration.
240 people from 70 area homes registered for the event and there were likely a few more people who didn’t register, but certainly enjoyed themselves. Also on hand to represent the City of Edmonton was Councillor Bryan Anderson.
Special thanks goes to Save On Foods, which provided the food, cooking equipment and even staff members to prepare everything for the block party. Both the Ellerslie Road and Summerside Save On Foods locations participated in the event, which helped raise $595 in donations from community residents for the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The Blackburne Creek Homeowners’ Association also donated $250 on behalf of all members in the community.
The event was chaired by homeowners’ association President Grant Ainsley, but the real hard work was done by committee members Nell Vandewark, Tamara Lewis, Rochelle Mills and Jennifer Harbin.
